See The World's Most Expensive Dress At Ripley's Believe It Or Not! In Orlando Soon

On May 19, 1962, Marilyn Monroe made history when she famously sang “Happy Birthday” to President John F. Kennedy for his 45th birthday at Madison Square Garden in a stunning, provocative flesh-colored gown.

On November 17, 2016, Orlando based Ripley’s Believe It or Not! set a new Guinness World Records record for the most expensive dress sold at auction when they acquired the dress from Julien’s Auctions for a staggering $4.8 million.

Add in auction fees, and the dress cost over $5 million, making it the most expensive dress in the world, with Riley's estimating that the dress is worth more than $10 million now.

Earlier this year, the icon Marilyn Monroe dress became front page news again throughout the world as Kim Kardashian famously wore the Marilyn dress to the Met Gala in May.

Kardashian had to convince Orlando's Ripley's Believe It Or Not! to allow her to wear the dress.

Ripley’s initially did not want to lend Kardashian the dress. When Kardashian first asked, Ripley’s responded with a “flat out no.”

After much negotiation, visits to Orlando, and having to loose 15 pounds, Kardashian was eventually allowed to wear the dress.

At the time, the publicity stunt was met with much outrage, after claims began circulating online that she had damaged the iconic dress. although Karashiansaid that she only wore the dress for her grand arrival at the Met Gala, before changing into a replica for the rest of the evening.

Officials from Orlando based Ripley's were quick to squash the claims and have remained adamant that the dress was not damaged in any way.

Ripley Entertainment Director John Corcoran said “We had it inspected before, we had it inspected when it came back, there was no damage done to the dress.”

The dress is currently on display at the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) Expo this week here in Orlando, but as soon as the show is over, it will be moved to Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Orlando museum located on International Drive for everyone to admire.
