REDRUM is a darkly comic musical parody inspired by The Shining. It blends original songs, tropes, and absurdity into a fast-paced theatrical experience.

The classic Stanley Kubrick horror film The Shining gets a tongue-in-cheek musical makeover in the stage play REDRUM: The Unauthorized Musical Parody Of The Shining.
All work and no play makes for a hilariously outrageous night at the theater. RedRum: The Unauthorized Parody Musical of the Shining takes a wickedly funny axe to one of the most iconic horror stories ever told. When aspiring writer Jack Torrance accepts a winter caretaking job at the isolated Overlook Hotel, cabin fever quickly spirals into chaos, complete with psychic visions, haunted hallways, creepy twins and lots of musical theatre mayhem.
Packed with catchy songs, sharp satire and laugh-out-loud twists, this unauthorized parody transforms a chilling psychological thriller into a wildly entertaining comedy. Whether you're a devoted horror fan or simply love clever musical spoofs, RedRum delivers a delightfully absurd journey into madness that proves even the scariest stories can be downright hilarious.
RedRum: The Unauthorized Parody Musical of the Shining comes to the stage in Orlando at the Alexis & Jim Pugh Theater, from Thursday October 23 - Sunday November 1, 2026.
The Shining is a 1980 psychological horror film produced and directed by Stanley Kubrick and co-written with novelist Diane Johnson. It is based on Stephen King's 1977 novel and stars Jack Nicholson, Shelley Duvall, Danny Lloyd and Scatman Crothers.
The film presents the descent into insanity of a recovering alcoholic and aspiring novelist who takes a job as winter caretaker for a mountain resort hotel with his wife and clairvoyant son.
The film was released in the United States on May 23, 1980. Reactions to the film at the time of its release were mixed; King criticized the film due to its deviations from the novel, which led King to produce in 1997 a three-part miniseries adaptation as more faithful to his novel.
The Shining has since gained a cult following, and is now regarded as one of the greatest horror films ever made.
