Oviedo Night Market returns as Mall Rat Market, a New Friday Night Experience at Oviedo Mall

Oviedo Night Market is being reimagined as Mall Rat Market, a monthly Friday evening market taking place on the second Friday of each month.

Friday nights at the mall are getting interesting again. On Friday, October 9th, Oviedo Mall will welcome back a familiar favorite with an entirely new identity as Oviedo Night Market is reimagined as Mall Rat Market, a monthly Friday evening market combining Local makers, artists, small businesses, food, drinks and interactive experiences with a different theme an twist each month.

The new series debuts Friday, October 9th from 5 - 9 pm with Mall Rat Market: The Other Side, an appropriately strange introduction to what the market is becoming.

“People loved Oviedo Night Market, and we knew we didn't want to lose what made it special,” said Josh Gunderson, Marketing & Events Director for Oviedo Mall. “But we also saw an opportunity to make it feel like more than simply another vendor market. Mall Rat Market gives us permission to make every month a little different, a little unexpected and, occasionally, a little weird.”

The Other Side will embrace the stranger side of mall culture with an evening of alternative artists, makers, creators and small businesses alongside interactive activities, photo opportunities and surprises to discover throughout Oviedo Mall.

With October providing the perfect backdrop for its debut, visitors can expect an atmosphere that blends spooky season, alternative culture, mall nostalgia and the kind of oddities that feel right at home at Oviedo Mall. Guests can spend the evening shopping independent businesses, grabbing something to eat or drink and exploring everything happening throughout the mall. Admission to Mall Rat Market is free and open to the public.

“We want people to eventually hear ‘second Friday’ and immediately know something is happening at Oviedo Mall,” Gunderson said. “There was a time when going to the mall on a Friday night didn't really require a reason. You met your friends, wandered around, discovered things and somehow spent the entire night there. Mall Rat Market takes some of that feeling and gives people a reason to do it again.”

That mix of nostalgia, community and a little unpredictability will carry throughout the Mall Rat Market series, with each month offering something new to discover.

Mall Rat Market: The Other Side takes place Friday, October 9th from 5 - 9 pm at Oviedo Mall, 1700 Oviedo Mall Boulevard in Oviedo. Admission and parking are free.
