Orlando Museum of Art opens doors wide with FREE ADMISSION on Thursday, February 19

The Orlando Museum of Art (OMA) today announces its upcoming Access for All event on Thursday, February 19, offering free admission from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. This event is a key part of OMA’s dedication to making art accessible to all. With generous support from the Art Bridges Foundation, Access for All opens the museum’s doors to the community, promoting inclusivity and inspiring creativity.

“At OMA, we believe that art should be for everyone,” said Cathryn Mattson, CEO of OMA. “With Access for All, we are opening our doors to the community and inviting people of all backgrounds to engage with the creativity and inspiration that art brings.”

Events in the February 19 schedule include:

12 - 1 pm - Art Sandwiched In

Join artist Jefreid Lotti, an American artist based in Miami. Working primarily in oil painting, Lotti creates painterly depictions of interiors, still lifes and portraits informed by his Cuban heritage, life in Miami, a formative year in the Midwest and his daily experiences in a mechanic shop, blending blue-collar narratives with a refined artistic sensibility. Lotti’s work is featured in OMA’s Echoes of the Ancient in Contemporary Voices exhibition, on view through March 15.

2:30 - 3:30 pm - Gallery Talk

Join this month for an in-depth look at OMA’s newest exhibition featuring the work of David LaChapelle. Discover how LaChapelle’s bold vision has shaped art and culture over his remarkable 50-year career. This tour is for viewers aged 18 and older.

5 - 7 pm - Sketching in the Galleries

Drawing and sketching supplies will be available for artists of all ages to use. Museum goers can enjoy an evening at the museum and be inspired by artwork in the galleries.

6 - 8 pm - La CinOMAthèque – David LaChapelle’s Rize

La CinOMAthèque is a collaboration between OMA and the Enzian, bringing free showings of art films to the community. Rize (2005), directed by legendary photographer and filmmaker David LaChapelle, is a raw and electrifying documentary that dives into the birth of two explosive Los Angeles dance movements: clowning and krumping. Set in South Central Los Angeles, the film follows dancers Tommy the Clown, Lil’ C, and Miss Prissy as they transform street dance into a powerful outlet for joy, self-expression, community and resistance in neighborhoods shaped by violence and inequality.  The screening will be followed by a talkback with OMA’s chief curator and Enzian's programming manager.

7 pm - Highlights Tour

This docent-led tour provides opportunities for meaningful conversations with the entire family. Follow along with a docent as they take you from gallery to gallery, highlighting various works.

Check out the latest museum and gallery news from Central Florida, including Orlando Museum Of Art, Orlando Science Center, The Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art, The Mennello Museum of American Art, and more.

In addition, guests are encouraged to view the museum’s other current exhibitions, including Relationships: A Love for Collecting II, Echoes of the Ancient in Contemporary Voices, This is Not a Toy, and Imagining Landscapes. Most recently, OMA opened David LaChapelle: As the World Turns, an expansive retrospective for the legendary director and photographer. Due to its mature content, this exhibition is open for viewers aged 18 and older.

"Access for All is a unique opportunity to engage with art in a variety of ways, from our insightful gallery talks to hands-on experiences like sketching in the galleries,” said Coralie Claeysen-Gleyzon, chief curator at OMA. “This month, we’re offering visitors a chance to explore David LaChapelle’s groundbreaking work and dive into the cultural significance of dance and coded movement in his documentary film Rize. This day is designed to provide something for everyone, whether you're an art enthusiast or new to the museum."

In addition to free admission, Access for All events offer guided tours and engaging gallery activities, giving visitors the chance to connect with art in diverse and meaningful ways. Everyone is invited to join and experience the beauty and inspiration of art in a welcoming and inclusive setting.
