OFD to provide free Hands-Only CPR and AED Training in recognition of World Heart Day

The Hands-Only CPR and AED training will prepare more residents to make a difference in an emergency cardiac arrest situation.

The Orlando Fire Department will host free hands-only CPR and automated external defibrillator (AED) training on Tuesday, September 29, 2026 at Walt Disney Amphitheatre, Lake Eola, in recognition of World Heart Day through its Take Heart Orlando program.

OFD has taught more than 250,000 city residents and counting lifesaving skills since its launch to help make the City Beautiful safer. Since September 2024, OFD has responded to more than 1100 cardiac arrest calls. Of those, roughly half involved bystander CPR which helped increase patient survival outcomes. 

Hands-only CPR is a simple yet powerful tool that can save lives in sudden cardiac arrest situations and you don’t need to be a healthcare professional to help victims in emergencies. Ideal candidates include any untrained bystanders at the scene of a collapse. They could be seniors, young adults, workplace employees, community volunteers, or even family members of people with heart conditions. 

According to the CDC, more than 350,000 people experience cardiac arrest outside of the hospital each year and about 60-80 percent of them die before reaching the hospital. Every minute without CPR decreases a patient’s chances of survival by 10 percent. If CPR is performed in the first few minutes of cardiac arrest, it can double or triple a person’s chance of survival. 

Firefighters will also be on hand to provide free blood pressure checks from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  This event is free and open to the public.
