Mystery as popular Dr Phillips Restaurant Slate shuttered without any explanation

A popular Orlando restaurant has abruptly closed with little to no explanation.

Locally owned Orlando restaurant Slate, located on Restaurant Row in Dr Phillips has permanently closed it's doors only days into 2024.

The expansive restaurant has been a fixture on Sand Lake Road since 2015. Located next door to Trader Joe's, the restaurant featured an open kitchen and a dining space with floor-to-ceiling windows, rustic wood everywhere with stone floors, and gas chandeliers that created a warm, inviting, and energetic environment.

Their Chef-driven menu offered seasonal produce, wood-grilled meats, fresh fish and seafood, pizzas baked in a wood-burning copper oven, Sommelier curated wine list, extensive spirit selections, local draft beers, and hand-crafted cocktails.

But now the restaurant is no more, suddenly closing with no advance warning, with only a short message posted on the home page of it's website and instagram account on Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2024, giving no reason for the closure.

The short and to the point notice reads: "To our wonderful customers, it is with a heavy heart we announce the permanent closure of our restaurant. We extend our sincere gratitude for your loyalty and support throughout the years. Farewell, and thank you for being a cherished part of our community.”

The restaurant has even purged its website and instagram account of any information, leaving only the closure notice.
