Hamburger Mary's to close downtown Orlando location

American bar and grill chain Hamburger Mary's know for its diner classics and cocktails, served with a side of quirky entertainment. has announced that it is to close its downtown Orlando location in the historic Bumby building after 16 years.

The shock news that Hamburger Mary's is to leave its long term home in Church Street in downtown was revealed by co-owner John Paonessa on Facebook late on Wednesday evening, May 22.

The last day of operation for the 110 W. Church St. location will be Sunday, June 2, 2024, with any reservations scheduled at Marys after June 2 being cancelled.

Known for the best drag Shows, bingo, trivias and brunches in town, and most recently its outspoken opposition to the State’s “Protection of Children Law,” Senate Bill 1438, Hamburger Mary's will be a big loss for downtown.

Paonessa states that, "Downtown Orlando has been great to us. However, times have changed. The hustle and bustle of Downtown Orlando has given way to a sleepy city with few people working downtown and opting for remote, and less traffic in the evenings.."

With less customers in the downtown area, Hamburger Mary's has decided its time to bit dowmtown farewell, and look to set up home elsewhere.

The restaurant is in negotiations/talks with a couple of venues that the business owners feel will be an excellent fit for the brand. However, they are asking the public that if anyone knows of a space that you think looks like a good fit for Marys, to contact them!

Paonessa thanked custoners for supproting them for the past 16 years, "Thank you all for always supporting us. We encourage you to continue to support our local LGBTQIA+ owned and operated businesses as well as those operated by our allies. We love y'all."

Paonessa also thanked staff and performers at Hamburger Mary's, "Thank you to all of our team members who are working now or have worked for us on Church St over the years. Simply the best! So many amazing drag performers who have come through our doors to entertain our guests and allowed us to win so many awards for Best Drag Shows, Bingo, Trivias and Brunches in town. Special love and hug to Miss Sammy who hosted our first show at Marys. We love and miss him so much. Thank you to Jimmi Rossi  for his 13 years of making Magic on our stage!"

Hopefully it wont be long before we can bring you news that Hamburger Mary's is opening elsewhere in Cebtral Florida!
