For the first time, actor Auli’i Cravalho, the voice of Moana in the Walt Disney Animation Studios film “Moana” visits Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana in EPCOT at Walt Disney World Resort on June 9, 2024.

Cravalho was excited to engage with water in magical ways, just like her character does in the film.

Cravalho was born in Kohala, Hawaii, and at the time she was cast as Moana, she was living in Mililani, Hawaii, with her mother and was in her first year of high school, singing soprano in the glee club at Kamehameha Schools' Kapālama campus.

Cravalho has stated that she was initially not going to audition for the role of Moana because "there were already so many great submissions that [she] didn't think [she] needed to try out"

However, a talent agent in Oahu discovered her through a charity video contest and brought her to Los Angeles to audition for the role. Casting director Rachel Sutton has stated that Cravalho was the last person to audition out of hundreds of actresses.

Cravalho will be an executive producer on the upcoming live-action adaptation of Moana but will not reprise the leading role.

She states that "it feels really important to me to pass the baton to the next young woman of Pacific Island descent"

Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana in EPCOT is a self-guided exploration trail where you can play with water as it travels from the sky to the oceans and back again. Enjoy magical encounters with water and discover its playful personality… just as Moana did on her heroic voyage.
