Orlando resident, Allison Sutton takes second place in National Bartending Competition

Orlando resident Allison Sutton from the Orlando Yard House located at ICON Park on International Drive has achieved status amongst elite bartenders after taking the second-place title in Yard House’s Best On Tap program — a national competition that allows bartenders from across the country to go head-to-head showcasing their beverage knowledge, bartending skills, service and hospitality know-how — all contending to be named Best On Tap.

Amongst more than 1,000 bartenders that competed from Yard House’s 90+ restaurant locations, Sutton placed amongst the all-female top three.

Sutton’s prize includes $2,500 and bragging rights as a top-ranking finalist. She competed against nine other finalists in the championship, known as the Final Draft, which took place in Orlando.

This year, every Yard House bartender, totaling more than 1000, had the opportunity to compete, resulting in one winner per location that continued to the regional round. The 89 regional contestants were then narrowed down to 10 finalists who competed in the Final Draft.

“I’ve been with Yard House for 20 years, and the bar is such a huge part of our culture. It’s awesome to see our craft celebrated like this. Best On Tap tests everything: service, hospitality, beer, cocktails, wine, even Cicerone knowledge. It’s intense, but also really fun once you get in the zone,” said Sutton.  “I’m just so grateful. I know I’ll only keep getting better, and any time I can help others or answer questions, I’m all in. That’s what this community is about.”

The first and third place finalists were also honored with prizes and bragging rights:

  • First Place: Michelle Yanez from Houston, TX

  • Third Place: Denae Paul from Roseville, CA

Now in its third year, Yard House’s Best On Tap program is a high-energy, skills-driven competition which underscores Yard House’s industry-leading bar program and celebrates technical excellence and hospitality standards among its bartenders.
