Memorial Day:

There will be several special remembrance services planned throughout the community. These solemn events honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving in the United States Armed Forces.

The services will include patriotic music, guest speakers, and a moment of silence to reflect and remember.

A new location that will be available for visitors on Memorial Day Weekend will be the Veterans Memorial Plaza, which opened to the public on April 25 and is located on the northwest corner of the Tom Staed Veterans Memorial Bridge in Daytona Beach. This plaza is the final phase of Volusia County’s memorial to veterans along the Halifax River.

Other veteran memorials and museums in the destination where visitors can pay their respects and honor our fallen heroes on Memorial Day include the Veterans Memorial at Riverfront Esplanade and the Veterans Museum & Education Center, both located in Daytona Beach, Ponce Inlet Veterans Memorial located at the Davies Lighthouse Park in Ponce Inlet, and the Ormond Memorial Art Museum & Gardens.

A Day at the Beach:

Any vacation getaway to the Daytona Beach area should include a beach day. Visitors can spend the day relaxing or playing on the area’s 23 miles of world-famous beaches where they will discover loads of family-friendly activities such as swimming, biking, fishing, surfing, parasailing, paddle boarding, kayaking, jet skis, boats and more.

Concerts at the Bandshell:

The summer concert series at the Daytona Beach Bandshell kicks off on Friday, May 23 and Saturday, May 24, and runs through September. The concerts at the historic coquina amphitheater are free for the public and reserved VIP tickets are also available.

Fireworks will be launched from the Daytona Beach Pier every Saturday night following the concert. Attendees can arrive early and enjoy the Ocean Walk Shoppes or stroll along the iconic Daytona Beach Boardwalk and Pier.

Mural Trail:

With close to 40 murals, the Daytona Beach area is home to some fine and unique public artworks.  These gems offer unexpected and interesting experiences around the corner. In the past few months, the area has been graced with three new murals:

On the western wall of Humphreys & Son Jewelers on Main Street is a mural created by artist Beth O’Connor, which features kids playing on the beach in front of the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse.

Two new murals have debuted in Ormond Beach near Art Spotlight and Swillerbees Craft Donuts & Coffee, which depicts a vintage postcard of Ormond Beach.

Visitors can discover these murals and many more on the Daytona Beach Mural Trail.

New Exhibits at Museum of Arts & Sciences:

The Smithsonian-affiliated Museum of Arts & Sciences (MOAS), the 100,000-square foot art, science and history museum will have two new exhibits for visitors to enjoy. Shoosty Bugs Exhibit, which opened earlier this month, features the work of Stephen Shooster. Also known as Shoosty, Shooster is a fine artist and writer whose works display multiple themes and styles, concentrating on music, landscapes, and conceptual art.

At the Cici & Hyatt Brown Museum of Art, which is located on the MOAS campus, It’s a Ship Show will open on May 17 and take guests on a visual voyage through Florida’s maritime history.

Both exhibits will remain open through Jan. 4, 2026.

Visit a State Park:

Memorial Day Weekend is a great time to explore the many state and local parks located in the Daytona Beach area.

Tomoka State Park in Ormond Beach is popular for outdoor activities such as canoeing, boating, fishing and protects a variety of wildlife habitats and endangered species, such as the West Indian manatee, and is a bird watcher’s paradise with over 160 species sighted.

Located in West Volusia is Blue Spring State Park in Orange City and De Leon Springs State Park, both known for swimming, canoeing and kayaking, boat tours and hiking trails.

In Ponce Inlet near the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse is Lighthouse Point Park, a 52-acre inlet park with boardwalks, picnic pavilions, nature trail and dog-friendly beach.
