Red Shirt Pride Day 2024
Saturday, June 1, 2024
The KindRED Pride Foundation believe in the Power of Kindness and believe in the Power of RED. The red in the pride flag represents life. The original organizers chose this color in order to recognize other “kindred spirits” at that first gathering.
What better way to kick off Pride Month than all “kind” people around the world wearing RED as a celebration of life in all of its different colors, shapes, sizes, genders, orientations, nationalities, ages, abilities, and status – where the only real question is “Are you kind or are you not kind?”
The event started with just a handful of people who decided they would meet socially on the first Saturday in June in front of the castle. They would all wear RED t-shirts to identify “kindred spirits” since they had only met on a bulletin board and never in person.
The event quickly grew to one of the largest LGBT+ annual gatherings in the world. and this year the goal is for thousands and thousands of previous guests and thousands and thousands of people who have never experienced the “MAGIC” of this iconic event to come to Magic Kingdom and celebrate being kind.

On October 6, 1998, Matthew Shepard, a University of Wyoming student, was kidnapped, beaten, and left to die, in what became an infamous act of brutality, and one of America’s most notorious anti-gay hate crimes. Considering Matthew Shepherd responds to and reflects upon the devastating events that led to Matthew Shepard's heartbreaking death.
Through music, poetry, and singing this piece demonstrates that his life and legacy are more than his inhumane suffering and demise. Yet no matter how many rainbow flags fly in The City Beautiful, queer individuals have not always been welcomed. By turning to the past, we may better understand the LGBTQ community’s resilience – a quality for which we should all be proud. This program is free with registration.
