The City of Orlando’s Downtown Development Board is inviting residents to board a special bus tour for a journey back in time to Parramore, a historic Black neighborhood in downtown Orlando, in recognition of Black History Month.
Join District 5 City Commissioner Regina I. Hill and the City of Orlando’s Downtown Development Board in celebrating Black History Month and the positive contributions, culture, and heritage of Orlando's African American residents.
On Thursday, February 8, the tour offers residents the opportunity to take a step back in history and board a bus for a historic tour of Parramore! The special guest tour conductor for the event will be none other than Commissioner Hill.
Parramore is the oldest and largest African-American neighborhood in Orlando, Florida. Founded in the late 1800s, Parramore formed the heart of the city’s Black community in segregated Orlando, and in the decades that followed, Parramore was the backdrop of some of Central Florida’s most important civil rights battles.
Today, Parramore is the only Commercial National Registered Historic District in Orlando. This designation is attributed to the rich African-American heritage and history of this community.
Following the bus tour, guests will enjoy complimentary admission to the Wells’Built Museum of African American History and Culture. Here visitors can explore memorabilia of Orlando’s African-American community and displays on the Civil Rights movement along with some African art and artifacts.
There will be two free bus tours on the day, scheduled for 9 am and 11 am. with the bus departing from the Wells’Built Museum of African American History and Culture at 511 W. South Street. Free parking will be available on the day at Shiloh Baptist Church of Orlando.
Limited seating is available. RSVP for the Parramore Historic Bus Tour today!
