As NOAA predict an 'Above-Normal 2024 Atlantic Hurricane Season,' Orange County hosts its annual Hurricane Expo

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) recently released its 2024 forecast for the Atlantic hurricane season, which officially starts on June 1, with NOAA predicting an "above average" hurricane season with 17 to 25 named storms, 8 to 13 hurricanes, and 4 to 7 major hurricanes of category 3 or higher.

With this in mind, Orange County is inviting you to go beyond the forecast by attending Orange County’s annual Hurricane Expo.

Central Florida Meteorologist Amy Sweezey will be in attendance, providing updates on this year's hurricane season.

During this free event, residents will also have the opportunity to learn storm preparedness and recovery tips and meet in person with safety professionals.

Don’t be late! Free preparedness items will be available for families to pick up while supplies last.

The free to attend Orange County’s annual Hurricane Expo takes place on Saturday, June 15, 2024, from 9 am - 1 pm at Evans High School, 4949 Silver Star Road, Orlando.

For more information about storm preparedness and recovery, visit ocfl.net/storm or email ocoem@ocfl.net.

As of right now, there is an 85% chance of an above-normal season, 10% chance of a near-normal season and a 5% chance of a below-normal season, with NOAA 70% confident in these ranges.

The above average forcast has been issued amid near-record highs in ocean temperatures, together with the development of La Niña conditions in the Pacific, together with reduced Atlantic trade winds and less wind shear, all of which are favoring tropical storm formation, leading to the 85% chance of an above-normal season.
