Sam Flax has been a fixture in Colonialtown since 2011, but no more as the shop is having to move.

The bright and colorful landmark featuring a variety of murals on Colonial Drive, the iconic arts supply store, Sam Flax is moving to a new location, announcing the news this week.
The store located at 1800 E. Colonial Drive, has been home to Sam Flax since 2011, and although the store has not given a reason for the move from its longtime home in Colonialtown, the building which is leased by Sam Flax, has been listed for sale by its owners, Bishop Group of Properties LLC for $5,300,000.
Sam Flax announced the news on social media, "We are moving and we couldn’t be more excited for what’s ahead! Our new location will be home to everything you love and MORE! From fine arts to gifts, master art classes to fun free events, our fine writing department to our established professional custom picture framing, we’re ready to showcase what makes our store so special unlike ever before!!
The store has not given a date for the big move, or where they are moving to, although they will remain open at their current location until they move, which we're sure is a relief for Orlando's creatives.
The store has assured everyone that wherever they move to, they will continue to offer teh same service as before, "We are so much more than an art store and our mission remains the same: to inspire creativity and support artists at every level. As always, we are for our customers, for our employees, and for everything creative. We can’t wait to welcome you into this next era of Sam Flax."
They has asked everyone to stay tuned to their social media accounts for more details on the move, "Stay tuned for our official celebratory opening date, we promise it’ll be worth the wait."
Sam Flax can be traced back to 1919 when it opened its first shop in New York City, they have been a fixture in Orlando for over 30 years, serving the local arts community.
The shop put down roots in Orlando in the 90s opening at 1401 E. Colonial Drive, before moving to its current location at 1800 E. Colonial Drive in 2011.
The colorful mural covered building has been home to the Sam Flax Wall Project, Orlando's largest one day mural event. The 5th event back in February last year featured the talent of 16 local artists, transforming the store’s exterior into a vibrant community-driven work of art.
The Call to Artists received nearly 200 submissions for the coveted 16 mural spaces, highlighting the depth of creativity within the Central Florida art community. Since its inception in 2015, the Wall Project has become a staple in the Orlando arts scene, drawing hundreds of spectators throughout the day.
It's not known if this project will continue at the new Sam Flax location, or if the existing murals at 1800 E. Colonial Drive will suprivce not that the building is for sale.
